| EMMAUS - WINCHESTER
The background
The
Emmaus Hampshire Green Roof project is an imaginative new way of caring
for homeless people and the environment. The project is based around a
Community, which will provide a home for 23 previously homeless people
and offer the opportunity for residents, or Companions as they are
called, to work within the Community and learn new skills, thereby
regaining self esteem and dignity.
The requirements
Having been given only two years in which to raise the funds necessary
to establish the project, Emmaus needed to recruit a professional
fundraiser. The original plan had been to advertise the role without
the help of an agency, believing this to be more cost effective.
However, after several expensive advertisements and unsuitable
candidates, it was decided that perhaps an agency was the answer.
|

The solution
Knowing that PAS Consultants had worked with the Third Sector, Emmaus
contacted them, and from the outset felt that great care was taken to
understand their needs. From this point on, most of the leg-work in
terms of advertising, interviewing, shortlisting, and ultimately,
finding the ideal person for the role, was taken on by PAS, freeing up
valuable time for other aspects of the charity.
Alison Thompson, Chair of Emmaus Hampshire, commented: “PAS are experts
in the third sector, so we knew they would understand our needs. They
were meticulous in their searching for candidates and we were delighted
with their very professional approach.”
|
The results
PAS
placed a candidate in the Fundraiser position at Emmaus. Alison said
she felt the consultancy had exceeded Emmaus’s expectations in finding
the right person for this particular role: “As a charity we have to keep
a close eye on our expenditure and with hindsight we would have been
better using PAS from the outset. The care that they took to understand
our requirements and the very professional manner in which they
conducted all aspects of the relationship are the reasons for their
success”.
What next?
PAS
and Emmaus have a strong working relationship, and although Emmaus is
not recruiting at present, the charity would not hesitate to use PAS
again when recruiting in the future.

"Having used PAS for the first time recently to assist in
filling a new vacancy for the post of UK Operations Manager, it
is a pleasure to record the excellent service provided by Jenny Warner
and her staff, I was particularly impressed by the strong process
implemented and followed by PAS. I would have no hesitation in
using PAS again, or in recommending their services to other charities
